We are one!

1st October 2013

It's happy birthday to us! That's right, a year ago today we opened our door for the first time, to welcome the community into our fantastic new facility.

Thank you to each and every one of you who has made the last 12 months such a success.

We thought we would let you know some of our stats, which we think you will agree, are phenomenal...

  • 29,000 visits
  • 1947 people undertake training
  • 5997 people take part in activities
  • 1164 people becoming Access Thamesmead card members, benefits include regular updates about up and coming activities, events and news
  • 841 cups of “The best cappuccino in town” sold
  • 486, £2.50 Coffee and Cake deals bought!

That's not including cast and crew members of Misfits, who often popped in to use our facilities.

With thanks to our partners - Thamesmead Youth Voice, Archway Project, Bexley Youth Service, Theatre Street Performing Arts, Thamesmead Gym and Pathways - as well as all our regular hirers, The Link is able to offer many activities, opportunities and spaces for hire.

Throughout our first year there has been singing, acting and dance classes, performing arts workshops, mechanics, film clubs, homework clubs, faith meetings, drop-ins, arts and crafts, an expanded community gym, indoor climbing, high and low ropes courses, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and so much more!

If that wasn’t enough, we look forward to welcoming Charlton Athletic Community Trust to The Link later this year.

Centre Manager, Mark Blundell said: “It has been a fantastic year, welcoming so many people through the door. We have worked with all our partners to make sure what we offer is of purpose and benefit to young people and the wider community.

“We look forward to the future and will keep building upon the offer; developing programmes and activities at The Link, to make it a special place where people choose to get involved in opportunities within the community.”

Trust Thamesmead’s Head of Business Development, Richard Fishlock added: “We’ve had a great first year and it has been really rewarding seeing people of all ages and backgrounds coming to the centre and getting involved in a really diverse range of activities. Mark has built up a great team of staff and volunteers, all of whom provide a first class welcome. Onwards and upwards to an even more successful second year!”
