Show stoppers

1st May 2013

Thamesmead Youth Voice’s Access Group recently held a Talent Show in The Studio at The Link, where 16 acts signed-up to take part, “They were brilliant!” said Claire, our Reception and Operations Worker who worked with the Access Group in putting the show together.

Claire continued: “The quality of the acts was extremely high and included our own Access Group and Thamesmead Youth Voice (TYV) members who impressed us with their talents.

“Although not everyone performed everyone did play a part in the smooth running of a successful evening of entertainment. Access and TYV members set a great example and helped in every way they could. It was an impressive first event for the group and hopefully one of many.”

Elle-Mai and Farrell from the Access Group hosted the event. Claire said: “They were extremely professional and didn’t bat an eyelid when last minute changes were made.”

The evening doubled as a fund raising event for the Make a Wish Foundation which made £268.21, with more monies expected from sales of the Pixelform Studios DVD that they made of the night.

Margie Griffiths, a Thamesmead resident, Good Life Garden and Arts & Crafts and Knitting group member said: “It was a great evening; a good time was had by everyone.”

“I don’t go out much in the evenings but I am glad I went to this,” said 63 year old Teresa Gifford who also goes to the arts and crafts workshop at The Link and is a front cover star*. “I only paid £1 a ticket but I would have happily paid £10. It was fantastic!”

Whilst TYV member, Tahlia Williams, who took part in the show said: “The night was brilliant! It was so much fun.”

The Link’s Centre Manager, Mark Blundell summed up the evening: “The event was really quite stunning and had The Link written all over it, from young people running the show to taking part. Everyone loved it!”
