The countdown is on!

17th September 2012

We are excited to announce the countdown to the opening of The Link Thamesmead, is finally on!

“Gaining the keys to the building is a day I have been waiting for since I started at the Trust 15 months ago,” said The Link Thamesmead’s Centre Manager, Mark Blundell.

The Link Thamesmead, which is housed in the once mainly-disused arches under the Harrow Manor Way flyover, will offer something for everyone, including:

Activities; Indoor climbing, high and low ropes courses, water-sports, motorcycle mechanics, singing, dancing and acting classes, a fitness gym and access to design and recording equipment, to name just a few.

Opportunities; Student placements, work experience, volunteering, training and free advice and guidance

Spaces for hire; Meeting rooms, rehearsal room, recording studio, drinks reception area and a 160 seat theatre.

The Link will be home to various service providers who will be offering activities and opportunities, including Archway Project, Bexley Youth Service, New Horizons Federation, Theatre Street School of Performing Arts and Thamesmead Gym, together with Thamesmead Youth Voice, Thamesmead Youth Action Link and an array of other deliverers.

The Link Thamesmead's Centre Manager, Mark Blundell added: “We are looking forward to unveiling this amazing community space at the beginning of October. You really have to see it to believe it but the building is only one element, what we offer inside is going to be even more exciting.”

Trust Thamesmead’s Head of Social Enterprise Richard Fishlock, who has led the development of The Link, said: “It’s been a long time coming but the wait has definitely been worth it. Stepping inside The Link and wandering around the various arches brings a smile to your face, and I can’t wait to see Thamesmead’s young people and the wider community coming along and sharing our pride in this fantastic new resource”.

Trust Thamesmead’s Chief Executive, Mick Hayes, said: “We promised something world class for Thamesmead, now we are determined to deliver to that level of aspiration.”

To coincide with the handover, we have also launched The Link Thamesmead’s official website, please feel free to explore and find out more about The Link itself and the providers, activities and opportunities that will be available when we are open to the public.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
