Claire, Jo and Dal joined The Link Thamesmead along with a pool of workers, which completes The Link Thamesmead's staff team.
The 11 employees started work on Wednesday 8 September and underwent a two-week induction, which included everything from Trust Thamesmead's policies and procedures, a variety of presentations and information sharing sessions from key team members including an overview of the Trust from the CEO, Mick Hayes and branding by The Link's Lead Marketing Officer, Julia, meeting various partners including Archway Project, Thamesmead Youth Action Link (TYAL) and Thamesmead Youth Voice (TYV) and attending various training courses including the new management information system, Safety in the Workplace, First Aid and Fire Safety.
Each employee went through vigorous interviews, which saw not only The Link's project manager and centre manager interviewing candidates but members of TYV and TYAL too.
Dal told us: “It was an impressive two-week induction. The getting to know you exercises were good fun and it was great to learn more about the Trust – the latest annual report told me a lot about what the Trust does and what it has achieved.
“It has been great meeting our partners including TYV who are very inspirational, and I loved the tour of The Link – the building has the ‘Wow’ factor, just like the strong foundation of Trust Thamesmead and the vision for growth.
“I am really looking forward to The Link opening and seeing different people in one place; interacting, having fun, learning and developing from the vast opportunities the centre will offer, whilst building confidence and greater opportunities for community cohesion/development. It will be both heart-warming and incredibly satisfying.
“The passion and commitment from the team and partner organisations is evident. As one of the new front facing staff members welcomed on board - I will also try to contain the excitement around me, and within me!”
Jo told us: “I am beyond excited - this is the job of my dreams. It is a rare opportunity to be involved in such a massive and worthwhile project and I hope The Link becomes an integral part of Thamesmead life for everyone that lives here.
“I think the youth of today are judged too quickly and not given the chance to express themselves and I hope that my role in The Link will encourage and help them to be strong and grow positively, learn to trust and ultimately begin their path into adulthood with a smile on their faces and a Link t-shirt on!
Claire said: “Starting at The Link as a new reception/operations worker was nerve racking but I was intrigued as to what the training would involve. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills in the last two weeks, in particular First Aid. Being able to perform first aid in the workplace as well as outside is a skill I shall now feel confident using. Furthermore, being introduced to the members of each arch and the activities they will provide has made me more excited about the centre opening.
“My favourite aspect of the two weeks though has been meeting the members of TYV who I believe are enthusiastic and incredible young people whose vision for the centre is inspiring for so many others within the community.”
The Link's Centre Manager, Mark, said: "We are very proud of our Staff Team and look forward to opening The Link Thamesmead in the near future and meeting all of you."
